Where to work in Kinshasa with a laptop

A café works for an hour. A hotel lobby works for a morning. For a full day with calls you need something else. Here is what each option is really worth.

Whether you are passing through Kinshasa or working alone, the question arrives every morning: where to sit with a laptop so the day is useful. The four options are not worth the same depending on what you have to do.

The café

Good for an hour and for work that needs neither a call nor a stable connection. The limits arrive quickly: few sockets, wifi shared with the room, noise, and a seat you lose the moment you step out for lunch.

The hotel lobby

Quieter, more sockets, often a better connection. It holds for a morning. The wifi is shared with the guest rooms, which shows once everyone is back in, and a video call in a lobby remains a difficult exercise.

The internet café

Built for short, occasional use. It solves printing or sending a document, and much less a working day with confidential calls.

The workspace

  • A socket per desk and a seat that stays yours when you leave the room.
  • A business connection sized for video calls.
  • Backed up power, so the day does not stop at the first outage.
  • A meeting room available when a call turns into a meeting.
  • Parking, and somewhere to receive someone.

Choosing by the kind of day

  1. 1.An hour, no calls: a café is fine.
  2. 2.A morning of quiet work: a hotel lobby does it.
  3. 3.A full day with calls: a workspace day pass.
  4. 4.Several days a week: an open seating subscription costs less than separate day passes.

Try a day

KinKonnects offers open seating by the day in Ngaliema at the OUA and Massamba crossing, with fibre, backed up power, parking and access from 7am to 10pm Monday to Saturday. You can come without an appointment and leave in the evening.

Kinshasa workspaces compared

A comparison is only worth anything if it is dated, sourced and willing to say a competitor does something better. This one is.
